BMW Partners with Leading Electric Mass Transit Company in North America

The Ohio-based Proterra is one of the top manufacturers of long-lasting electric mass transportation automobiles, and BMW i Ventures is teaming up with them to develop a more ecologically friendly automotive industry.

According to a press release on BMW's website, Proterra aims to cut down on fossil fuel reliance, and significantly restrict operating expenses for transit corporations across the country.

“This is an extremely exciting time at Proterra as our customers, supporters, and investors—new and old alike—rally behind our vision for a clean, electric transportation ecosystem,” said CEO of Proterra, Ryan Popple. “We’re incredibly grateful to our new investors, and are proud to call them partners as we strive to eliminate fossil fuel dependence throughout the transit industry.”

Proterra dominates the industry with a 60-percent market share in the North American electric mass transit market. It has also worked with 38 different U.S. cities, university, and commercial transit agencies in 20 states. Some of these partnerships include Dallas, Foothill in the Great Los Angeles area, Seattle, Nashville, Dallas, Philadelphia, Reno, and San Jose.
