• Winter tires, also referred to as snow tires, are typically constructed of special rubber compounds that remain pliable to deliver extra traction in snowy, icy conditions and low outside temperatures
  

• Run-flat (or RSC) tires are available as performance or all-season, as well as winter tires. Run-flats feature resilient rubber-reinforced sidewalls and heat-resistant rubber compounds. These allow you to continue driving with a deflated tire at a maximum speed of 50 mph for a limited distance.
  

BMW works closely with the leading tire manufacturers during the selection process for BMW Approved tires. Extensive tests determine which tires are best suited for use on BMW vehicles. Only the tires that succeed in meeting the highest standards for safety and handling characteristics are given the title of BMW Approved tires.

Tire Care

To ensure consistent tire performance, BMW does not recommend rotating tires. While some tire manufacturers will allow tire repairs, BMW only recommends replacement of damaged tires. Tire punctures can cause internal damage to the steel belts of the tire, which can result in rust forming on the steelbelt material. This, in turn, can deteriorate the tire over time. Tires come with built-in tread-wear indicators (also called wear bars). These become visible only when a tire is overly worn. So BMW recommends replacing all-season and performance tires when 3mm of tread depth remains, and winter tires when 4mm of tread remains. For more information, please refer to your Owner's Manual or ask your service advisor. Over time, chemical changes occur, which can affect a tire's durability and performance. Therefore, BMW recommends replacing tires after six years. The age can be determined by examining the DOT number on the sidewall. The last four digits of the number are the week and year the tire was manufactured. For example, a number ending with 2407 was produced the 24th week of 2007.
