Our customers at Global Imports BMW frequently inquire about the differences between top options like the 2019 BMW 5 Series and its 2018 predecessors. You cannot go wrong with purchasing either of these midsize luxury sedans, but there are notable differences between them that could impact your selection. After exploring those differences in detail, which 5 Series will you decide to make your own?

Performance

While there are substantial differences between the 2018 and 2019 BMW 5 Series sedans, they have the same performance capabilities. The base powertrain is a 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder engine that produces 248 horsepower. It is combined with an eight-speed auto transmission. Both model years are available with a few other powertrain options for drivers who crave more power behind the wheel. One of these is a TwinPower Turbo I-6 engine that turns the dial up to 335 horsepower. The V8 engine that is available in the top-of-the-line 5 Series sedans produces 456 horsepower. All engines are available with the xDrive all-wheel drive system.

Appearance

The differences between the 2018 and 2019 5 Series also have not reached the sedan’s style. There are three styling packages available for both model years, and they are unchanged. The 5 Series continues to have a kidney grille, angled LED headlights, and sleek body lines that showcase the sedan’s sultry side. The M Sport package has a lowered suspension system and sleeker body elements. Color options include Alpine White, Dark Graphite Metallic, and Black Sapphire Metallic for both model years.

Features

In 2018, the 5 Series’s Apple CarPlay feature was an option. It has become standard equipment in the 2019 5 Series. The 2019 version also adds safety technologies like blind-spot monitoring, auto-braking with forward collision mitigation, parking sensors, and lane departure sensing. You can enjoy features like a 10.2-inch touch display screen, a navigation system, heated seats, a keyless ignition, USB ports, and other modern gear for both model years.
