There's no mistaking the white and blue quadrants, encased in the a thick black border; all around the world, regardless of language or culture, people instantly recognize the BMW logo a the visual representation of the ultimate driving experience.
In honor of this #ThrowbackThursday, we here at Global Imports wanted to share a brief history of the BMW logo and debunk one of the most common myths about this iconic roundel which has remained largely unchanged throughout the decades.
As iconic as the traditional kidney grille, the BMW logo has been thought by many to be an abstract rendering of a rotating plane propeller; BMW began with aircraft engines, hence the origin of the myth, but what's really behind the creation of the logo is something quite different, indeed.
The blue and the white colors simply are intended to evoke the Bavarian national colors, while the circular design and layout of the letters "BMW" are inspired by the emblem for Rapp, the company that eventually grew into BMW.
Origin aside, what is perhaps most intriguing about the BMW logo is that though it has remained relatively unchanged, passing the test of time, it continue to be a symbol of the brand's promise to produce an outstanding product, each and every time.
