Here at Global Imports BMW, we believe vehicle education is important. Knowing the difference between the types of spare tires will keep you and your family safer in the event of a flat. There are two main types, and they each come with their own set of benefits.
A full-size spare, as its name implies, is just as big as your other tires. That means it won't adversely affect your vehicle's performance while driving. It may take up more space in your vehicle than you'd care for, though.
Though smaller and more convenient to haul, a compact temporary spare tire has its limits. You can't drive with it as you normally would. It's not able to handle fast speeds, nor should it be used for more than approximately 70 miles. You'll need to get your car to a service station for a replacement as soon as you can.
